This girl, really close to me, just said “I really respect and look up to you… I always have… Stuff happens to you and you stay strong and you don’t give up.”

I met her in college and she always seemed to be smiling and quirky. Later, I found out she had serious suicidal problems and one night, she almost committed suicide. A few days later, she told me that I was the reason she was still alive. She told me my words had saved her.

And then she just wrote that above stuff to me… About me being strong no matter what and that she looks up to me… but…

I feel like a fake.

What people don’t know is that I’m not strong. I don’t have my shit together. I break down alone almost every night. Some days, I don’t want to wake up. Some days, I feel like taking my life because it seems too much to bare.

I’m not someone to look up to or believe in… because I don’t believe in myself.

And the day she told me that I saved her, I cried after she left. Not because she was saved and still alive, but because someone like me saved someone like her.

How could a person that had, just a few years ago, a gun down their throat ready to pull the trigger save someone who was about to end everything by a rope in their closet?

How could someone, who still thinks about dusting off that same gun with the intention of pulling the trigger this time, have someone else, who decided to take down the rope from their closet, look up to them?

I feel like a fake.
